Just how dead is OneCare, really?

Blogger Mitchell Ashley writes, "Okay, I’ve read all the news stories about how Microsoft is backing out of the retail anti-virus market by sending Windows Live OneCare packing and putting the free malware program Morro in its place. I don’t believe it’s really all that simple. How many times does Microsoft drop a product just a few years into its introduction? Almost never. ... Frankly, I use OneCare and I like OneCare a lot as AV products go. Microsoft could get rid of the data backup and the scheduled disk defrag components of OneCare and I’d be happier. Oh... wait, isn’t that what Morro is? OneCare without back up and defrag?"

  • Microsoft partners with Blockbuster for Live Mesh services Submitted by Microsoft Subnet on Mon, 12/01/2008

    Blockbuster last week introduced a set-top box that brings movie rentals from the Internet to the television. Today it announced a partnership with Microsoft that will let users watch Internet movies on a variety of mobile devices. The ultimate goal, Blockbuster said, was to give "instant access" to any movie to any device that had the broadband link and a screen.

  • Vista SP2 expected next April, says insider site Submitted by Microsoft Subnet on Mon, 12/01/2008

    The same Malaysian Web site that successfully predicted release dates for Vista SP1 and XP SP3 earlier this year, said that Microsoft will finish the Vista SP2 service pack in April and will post a generally available release candidate in February. A release candidate was posted for select testers/developers about a month ago.
