Cisco adds 3G WAN to 880 ISR

Cisco today announced that it has beefed up its 880 Series Integrated Services Router by adding support for 3G. The new feature is called 3G Mobility and Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) -- a mouthful that means the 880 can now failover to a 3G wireless WAN connection if it has access to one.

In other PR hoopla, Cisco also said today that its 5 millionth ISR was deployed. The milestone ISR is being used by Verizon Business as part of a managed service for Colgate-Palmolive. The ISR line was launched nearly four years ago and since that time, the category of all-in-one box has become the status quo for branch office networks. It has also become the target of lower-cost open source routers that run on Linux.
