Patch Tuesday rolls around all too quickly and the next one will get Microsoft administrators busy. The software giant plans to ship 11 security updates - four of them rated critical, according to this IDG News
Service story. The updates will target critical flaws in Active Directory, Internet Explorer, Excel and the Microsoft Host Integration Server, which integrates Windows computers with IBM mainframes. There will also be six less-critical updates, rated "important," by Microsoft, for Windows, and a "moderate" patch for Office. All of these updates are expected around 10 a.m. Pacific time on Tuesday. Microsoft administrators got off 'lightly' in September, when there were four patches - although all of them were critical, including MS08-052, which touched so many pieces of software and because it attacks deep within Windows. Microsoft also released 11 fixes in August, when it held back one critical patch because of quality issues. The other time Microsoft released 11 patches was in February 2008. Oh my god the sky is falling.
If your running Windows 2000 server a 8 almost 9 year old OS. Yeah I'll be busy patching the Mac's in our organization with the just released grand total of 20 security updates including apache, tomcat, php, the finder of all things. This is why apple releases all their patches in one update so a) that you cant test or decide specifically which patches you want/need and b) so that it appears that apple has to release fewer security updates than Microsoft.
