Cisco TelePresence rivals HP and Tandberg have gotten together to sell a joint telepresence package that involves HP reselling Tandberg's telepresence gear, even though HP has its own Halo telepresence
family. HP will extend its Halo Video Collaboration Service so it applies to Tandberg’s telepresence products, reports Network World's Tim Greene. HP will also provide the installation and monitoring as Tandberg has no service arm of its own. Tandberg is also on the lookout for similar deals with other vendors. For HP, the deal widens the opens of telepresence it can offer its customers from customized Halo rooms to Tandberg's free-standing unit.
According to Paul Waadevig, an analyst with Frost & Sullivan, Cisco has the capability of integrating its telepresence products with its unified communications gear and that Polycom may have a better solution than HP/Tandberg for businesses that are getting into telepresence for the first time.
