There is another solution worth mentioning. It is the ConfigCheck tool that Tripwire developed together with VMware. It is also free ad available directly from VMware. It checks ESX 3.0 and 3.5 to make sure they are properly configured and secure in accordance with VMware's own configuration hardening and security guidelines:
