We implemented Expand in a POC, of all three vendors we worked with their engineers were the most attentive and skilled.
The install took all of 2 hours for three sites and it's been a year and a half and it's still doing it's job with absolutely no issues.
I like the product.
Very Satisfied with Expand (Install, performance, support, etc.)
We implemented an Expand solution for Wan Acceleration from our headquarters in New York to a branch office in Brazil and have been extremely satisfied. We chose Expand because of their algorithms that specifically accelerate Terminal Server traffic (on top of the general acceleration/compression tricks that most WAN accelerators companies, including Expand perform) as well as their proven track record with satellite/high latency ISP acceleration. Expand did not disappoint! Our installations in both countries were quick and painless. Because of the pass-through nature of their units, there was virtually no drop in communications during the install – only the time it took to re-route the network cables into their unit. Even after the Expand installer was off-site, he made himself available to us via phone and/or WebEx sessions, as much as needed, to make sure any questions we might have were answered and to make sure we were getting the maximum performance the units were capable of.
Speaking of performance - the improvement we’re seeing is tremendous. Prior to the WAN accelerator it took our Brazil users over a minute to see an application open up on the Terminal Server. Subsequent input took 30 seconds or so between screen refreshes. With the Expand Wan Accelerators in place, it takes about 10 seconds for them to see the application to open up in Terminal Server and subsequent input feels virtually real-time. The statistics and reports found in the GUI interface are top notch and put all the information you want to see at your fingertips. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing over 5Mbps of accelerated traffic flowing through a 1Mbps satellite link in the middle of the rainforest halfway across the globe. The reports have made it very easy to cost-justify future WAN accelerator units to management. We’re chomping at the bit to get accelerators into more of our branch offices as we’ve become spoiled with the performance we’re seeing at our accelerated office.
To sum everything up, we’ve been very happy with our Expand experience. Installation went great, support after the install has been extremely good (a refreshing change of pace compared to other companies we've dealt with), and the Expand Accelerators have performed beyond our expectations. If anyone has any questions about our experience with Expand, please feel free to contact me.
Great Solution
My company recently finished a VDI project and we were really struggling with performance over our WAN. We began a search for WAN optimization products. We began our search with riverbed and after a test found that they could do nothing to help us. The same with Cisco and BlueCoat. After a bit more research we came across Expand and could not be happier. We were able to solve our VDI performance issue within 15 minutes of deployment. Kudos to Expand Networks for truly having a distint unique offering to the market.
Implemented mid 2007, doesn't scale beyond 45 Mbps, Unprofession
The hardware had some stability issues, but they were minimal and fixed in newer versions. My main problem was the scaling beyond 45 Mb, they can't do it. They wanted me to throw 10 appliances in my core and do funky routing to make it work. When I pressed them on it, and told them I was entertaining other companies, they got really unprofessional. Like it was my fault the product didn't meet my needs.
