Branch functions: Centralized or distributed?

This is a great article - i would add, though, the primary consideration of the company's network configuration. we have a corporate office and 8 branch offices that had been running on separate networks. While most of our applications are web based, there are 2 that are accessed via VPN. This configuration has served us well, however, we're considering centralizing some business practices/functions and couldn't make that happen without re-architecting our voice/data infrastructure.

A pleasant surprise is the cost savings with migrating to a newer telephony technology (MPLS) which really sets the stage for our IT plan. You're right on when you wrote about having a collaborative effort! Systems and business solutions are more inter-dependant than ever before!!
