Microsoft buys mobile software maker Danger

Microsoft said Monday that it agreed to acquire Danger Inc., a software and service provider for consumer handsets. The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company provides real-time mobile messaging, social networking services, Web browsing and personal information management applications. In the same announcement, Microsoft announced that Sony Ericsson will deliver a Windows Mobile phone, the XPERIA X1, which Microsoft characterized as an arc slider phone geared for Web access and multimedia.

Microsoft is also showcasing a new version of a client application that lets users access MSN Direct content on Windows Mobile phones. It gives users access to popular Web content like weather and stock updates; top news stories; entertainment, sports and business news. Information is presented in an easy-to-read format, Microsoft promises, and is automatically refreshed to be always up-to-date.
